PLEASE VOTE in the primary...

[this is good]
The sad thing is that election fraud is ramped across this country. You could vote for someone but have it put for someone else. We have to get these voting machines out of are elections so we can have fair elections again.
Do you know if you work a polling place you get paid? It's not a bad gig. I made LOTS of interesting observations while there.

I worked at one of the polling places this year. The machines we use are not too bad... Ours are electronic, they come with (one of those plastic seals that you can't untie that also have a code number on it that must match the rider page they send with the machines) and you can push the vote button at any time between voters to check the number of votes tallied so you can check them against the number of voter sheets (the paper the voter gives you with their info on it) on the sheet folder that holds them. We write a number on the back of each paper to keep count as the day goes on to make sure the amount we tally manually matches the machine tally. If it doesn't match (which sometimes happens if one worker has to go to the bathroom and another worker accidentally places a voter sheet on the wrong folder) then everything stops until we redistribute the sheets to the proper folder. That only happened twice all day with maybe three sheets, and it got straightened out pretty quickly.

We had virtually no problems with the machines (Infinity brand - I don't remember the type) except a couple of times when people tried to change the settings on the display and the screen stuck and they couldn't advance the page. We were able to fix it each time and had no more problems.

At the end of the day, there is another small machine that plugs into the voting machine that tallies the votes. There must be three witnesses who see the sheet tally, and all three people have to sign the actual sheet that it is a true sheet that came out of that particular machine. We make two copies, one to go to the election commission office, and the second to tape up on the inside of the polling place where people can see it posted. Our polling place was a church, so once we left we didn't have access to the building anymore, so so one could mess with the sheets. We posted ours on the inside it the glass doors of the church facing out so people could see from the outside. That way anyone can check the numbers there against any fishy number they might come up with... each precinct has to do this posting.

There are several cases with equipment (including the box containing the completed tallies, cards, tally reader, etc.) that ONLY the supervising officer can touch. I suppose this is to keep anyone from misplacing them - or tampering with them.

All in all it was a very efficient process. I know I would have absolutely HATED to sit into the night tallying all the votes by hand and having to have each vote double or triple checked... I was worn out just explaining to people how to work the booth and answer questions and just standing all day long.

I think it would be a good idea to make sure there are a good mix of political backgrounds for the workers at any poll. In order to insure this we need to make sure we are willing to work a polling place at least once in our lifetime, if not every election year. If you were to let your employer know that you prefer to work at the polling place on election days and give him or her plenty of notice, more than likely you can just use election days as your vacation day... but until we actually get involved in the election process (volunteering, working polling places, educating people about the election process, helping people register, etc.) we can sit back and wonder why it's such a corrupted system, or we can do something about it and get busy helping.

One thing I noticed was that the workers carefully remained impartial while the voters were there. We all had to take an oath before we opened the polling place to uphold the Constitution and help everyone in an impartial manner, and it seems everyone there fulfilled that oath. Maybe it's that we live in the South and we're generally very good about following rules and being polite. I know by the end of the VERY long day my cheeks were hurting from all the smiling I did. I even had one gentleman ask me if I had an unmarried daughter because he had three sons he needed to marry off! (That was funny, because I have one and she wants to get married! LOL!) I only had ONE out of all the 288 people who was a very unpleasant person come to my booth, and he turned out to be voting for the Republican candidates... ALWAYS BE NICE to the poll workers...

All that to say, get involved and you'll be able to observe for yourself if there is any election fraud. Anyway, I earned $100... and to me that's no small change!
